Per the most recent US Embassy update, things are "officially" back to normal in the Mexican State of Quintana Roo, including areas like Cancun, Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen.

"While incidents were reported yesterday, February 22, the situation has returned to normal in the following areas: Quintana Roo State (including Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum), Sinaloa, and Tamaulipas. There have been some unsettling reports in Mexico these past 24 hours. We're monitoring the situation very closely and always do our best to gather unbiased and truthful information through credible news sources, local and US government updates and our partners who live and work there. We're also in contact with all of our current in-destination clients to give them timely updates.

I believe the post below is an accurate picture of the Cancun/Riviera Maya/Playa Mujeres regions based on the news conferences, local reports and in-destination client feedback I've received. The situation will continue to evolve and it's good to stay informed, but... PLEASE, don't believe everything you see! There are definitely some AI images and very uninformed social media commentaries spreading like wildfire.

📍 SO WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING?

Some isolated incidents took place in parts of Mexico following a federal law enforcement operation in Jalisco — a state more than 2,000 km from the Riviera Maya. A ripple effect reached Quintana Roo in the form of a small number of localized disturbances.

Here is what Governor Mara Lezama has officially confirmed:

✈️ All four international airports are open and running normally. Zero flight cancellations. Any delays you may hear about are due to U.S. weather — nothing more.

🏨 The Cancún Hotel Zone is open. The rumors claiming otherwise are completely false.

🚌 The Maya Train, ADO buses, and all tourism services are operating without interruption.

👮 Over 10,000 security personnel from the Army, National Guard, Navy, and local forces are deployed across the state.

✅ No civilian injuries have been reported.

🔎 What was confirmed: a handful of vehicle fires in scattered locations and minor property damage — none in tourist areas or near hotels. Nine people have been arrested.
