Community garden plots are now available through the Sangamon County Department of Public Health.

Residents can now sign up for a 10’ x 10’ garden plot for just $10 per season. Participants will have access to fertile soil, water, gardening tools, and more, with complimentary seed kits and starter plants available while supplies last.

Space is limited and plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What a great evening celebrating the opening of two new exhibits now on display on the second floor of the Sangamon County Building.

In partnership with the Sangamon County Historical Society and the Springfield Art Association, the exhibits highlight the history of women’s baseball and softball in Sangamon County and feature baseball-themed artwork by Rod Buffington.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring these exhibits to life and to all who attended the opening reception.

The exhibits are free and open to the public during regular business hours through the end of July at the Sangamon County Building, 200 S. 9th St. in Springfield. We encourage the community to stop by and take a look. ⚾️🎨

Sangamon County residents will have an opportunity to apply for a passport this Saturday during a special passport registration event at Warren-Boynton State Bank.

Passport agents from the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be on site from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Warren-Boynton State Bank, 702 W. Illinois St. in New Berlin, to process passport applications.

Applicants should bring a certified copy of their birth certificate, a valid photo ID, and an approved passport photo. Photos can also be taken on site. Applicants should also bring certified copies of any court orders related to name changes, custody or adoption decrees, along with two personal checks, cashier’s checks or money orders for applicable fees.

If you are unable to attend, passport services are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

Sangamon County is now accepting proposals from vendors interested in operating the café and grab-and-go retail space inside the new Springfield-Sangamon County Transportation HUB, scheduled to open in fall 2027.

The county is seeking a creative operator or partnership to provide food and beverage service, offer retail items, and create opportunities for local entrepreneurs in this new downtown space.

Interested applicants are encouraged to attend one of two informational sessions at Innovate Springfield, which will also be available via Zoom.

Proposal deadline: Friday, July 31 at noon.
