Our Community Birth Center

Fun, free event tomorrow at the Fern Ridge Library.

Fall is open enrollment time for health insurance. This is the once a year time when you can sign up for or change your health insurance plan for the coming year.

Your insurance plan affects how we bill for your health care. If we are in-network with your plan, we can bill your insurance. If we are not in-network with your health plan, you can still receive health care with us, but you must pay out of pocket. We recommend choosing a health plan that we are in network with to ensure your health care is covered by your insurance.

We Currently CANNOT Bill: Kaiser, TRICARE, and CHAMPVA.

We Currently DO Work With (we are in-network): UnitedHealthcare / UMR, Moda, Regence BlueCross BlueShield, PacificSource Health Plan, Oregon Medicaid / Oregon Health Plan, Trillium, HMA, Cigna, Aetna, Providence, and Medicare.

We are so excited to share that our Community Partner Every Kid Pediatric Dentistry is sponsoring this year's Trunk or Treat & Resource Fair on October 28.

Every Kid Pediatric Dentistry provides specialized dentistry for infants through teens, including routine exams, emergency care, as well as specialized care for patients who have physical or mental disabilities of many kinds. Our Community Birth Center could use some help restocking our everyday birth center items. We are in need of fresh pillow cases and (as always) more washcloths!

These items, as well as others that we use frequently to support our clients, can be purchased for the birth center through our Thankful Registry. All in-kind donations are tax deductible!

Thanks to a grant from CLF Network, our very own Sophia Hirons is now certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician!

At the end of August, Sophia attended an extensive 4-day training to learn the ins and outs of car seat installation, proper infant and child positioning, checking for recalls, and more!

Thank you CLF Network for helping us take the first step to launch this new program. We are so excited to begin offering car seat inspections and training to families.

Help support the good work our partners at Black Thistle Street Aid do at their fundraiser tomorrow!

Black Thistle has been providing harm-reduction support and street outreach for 6 years. When Black Thistle identifies a person without shelter who is pregnant or just needs support with getting birth control, STI testing and treatment, referrals, pap smears, and more, they are connected with Our Community Birth Center where our midwives provide them with sensitive, trauma-informed care. Many unhoused individuals have had negative experiences with doctors and hospitals and put off getting the care they need. Our partnership with Black Thistle is one way we can help support persons without shelter get the health care they deserve, while simultaneously increasing rates of STI testing and treatment amongst this population and reducing the frequency of unnecessary emergency room visits.

Our partnership with Black Thistle Street Aid is supported by grant funding from Oregon Health Authority.

Yesterday was National Nonprofit Day and we can't think of a better way to have spent it than with our annual Board of Directors social!

Our Community Birth Center's Board of Directors is unique in that it is made up of entirely birth center parents. It's important to us that the birth center's governing body—those who help oversee our budgets and help with long-term planning—is invested in the work we do and has lived experience with our mission.

We are so grateful for this passionate group of birth center parents and their commitment to equitable access to birth center care.
