SPRINGFIELD – A new general manager is bringing several new amenities to Hamlin Sports Complex this summer.

The Springfield Drifters begin their fifth season in the West Coast League on Friday night at Bend. When they play their home opener against Yakima on Tuesday, fans will see new features at the ballpark.

“We are doing a lot of cool things this summer,” said Jake Willard, who was hired as GM in October. “The biggest thing we want to do is take the fan experience that people have known about and enhance it and elevate it. We are excited to have a good, meaningful fan experience and quality baseball. We have added things that will supplement the experience that fans have come to know.”

Hall is no stranger to the postseason as she will be back at state this weekend after finishing fifth in the shot put last year. She was also a sharpshooter for Springfield’s girls basketball team that reached the Class 5A final in March.

Innovation, new approaches lift for Colts baseball - The Chronicle 05/28/2026

THURSTON – After a May 2 doubleheader loss to Class 5A No. 1 Crater, Thurston had a 5-7 league record, and had lost six of its past nine games.

Since that point, the Colts have seven victories in a row, albeit with one coming by forfeit. Thanks to their own hot streak and a North Eugene sweep of Eagle Point, the Colts earned the third automatic playoff bid in the Midwestern League and will host a home playoff game on Tuesday against Bend.

Kinney and Leonard, meanwhile, actually signed to play different sports. Kinney will play soccer at Johnson and Wales University while Leonard will run track at the University of Portland.
