Landscape design principles serve as guidelines for creating appealing and functional outdoor spaces. They include:
1. Unity/Harmony: Ensuring a cohesive relationship between various elements for a unified and visually pleasing design.
2. Balance: Distributing visual weight to create stability, with symmetrical, asymmetrical, or radial balance options.
3. Proportion/Scale: Maintaining size relationships between elements to achieve balance and harmony within the overall space.
4. Variety: Incorporating diverse plant types, textures, colors, and forms to add interest and prevent monotony.
5. Emphasis/Focal Point: Using focal points to draw attention to specific areas or features, anchoring the viewer’s gaze and guiding them through the space.
6. Rhythm/Repetition: Establishing a sense of order and movement through the repetition of elements like plants, colors, or materials.
By creatively applying these principles, designers craft outdoor spaces that are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and well-balanced!

We recently visited Crystal Bridges in AR and were completely inspired by the Exquisite Creatures Exhibition!
Biophilia, a concept introduced by Biologist Edward Wilson, hypothesizes that our evolutionary history has ingrained in us an instinctive bond with nature, even as our societies become more urbanized. The exhibition beautifully illustrated how our appreciation for the natural world can enhance our well-being and foster a sense of stewardship over our planet. - Crystal Bridges
Christopher Marley’s work blew us away. Check out his Instagram to see more of his stunning artwork!

Crafting an exemplary outdoor space elevates any environment, be it residential or commercial, enriching its appeal and utility. In the wake of Covid-19, the significance of outdoor settings has surged, emphasizing the need for fresh air and safe social spaces. The evolution of outdoor design, particularly in retail and dining sectors, has seen remarkable strides in addressing indoor Covid-19 transmission concerns, fostering innovative and active outdoor environments.
Key considerations in designing outdoor commercial spaces include:
1. Sidewalk Space: Ensuring ample room for both pedestrians and cyclists to navigate comfortably within the designated area.
2. Color and Style Cohesion: Harmonizing the outdoor ambiance with the interior design to avoid stylistic clashes.
3. Emphasizing the Main Entry: Just as in a residence, the business entrance should exude warmth and allure, featuring landscaped elements, perhaps a water feature, and inviting seating arrangements under well-lit surroundings that seamlessly connect with the interior decor.
4. Outdoor Seating: Facilitating community engagement through diverse seating options that offer both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Flexibility is key, allowing for adaptable furniture arrangements to suit varying user preferences.
In essence, integrating and enhancing outdoor spaces enhances user satisfaction and overall experience, fostering a sense of connection and well-being within the community.

Balance is about creating a visual feeling of equilibrium. It dictates the flow, feel, and function of a space. Every element plays its part in crafting spaces that captivate and inspire.
Symmetrical -
Finding stability and calmness in repetition. Think mirrored furniture, matched patterns, and perfectly arranged spaces along a central axis.
Asymmetrical -
Here, it’s all about visual weight. Mix and match elements of similar weight to achieve equilibrium without the mirroring effect.Asymmetrical styling tends to feel more dynamic and less rigid- as these work together to create balance.
Whether symmetrical or asymmetrical, the art lies in orchestrating elements to resonate with one another, evoking a sense of harmony.
