Barbara Gardner Proctor was a true PR Pioneer who founded the first Black-owned ad agency, Proctor & Gardner, in 1970. With determination and a deep-rooted belief that her business would succeed, Barbara went on to have Sears and Kraft Foods on her clientele list. Mentioned by name by President Ronald Reagan in a 1984 State of the Union address, Barbara's achievements weren't limited to the world of PR.

Inez Y. Kaiser was not only the first Black woman to own a PR firm in the U.S., but she also served national clients and built an exclusive clientele list, including Sears and 7-Up. Kaiser paved the way for many Black women in the PR and communications fields today.
