The Hotel of Terror will have one last run.
The City of Springfield has reached a settlement with Hotel of Terror owner Sterling Mathis regarding his property and the city’s need for the property to repair the Main Avenue Bridge.
Both parties have settled at the $2 million figure OzarksFirst previously reported on.
Mathis sent me this statement that says: “After years of uncertainty and legal challenges, our family has decided to settle and move forward. This has been an emotional and exhausting experience, and the stress has greatly affected our family, especially my wife’s health.
With this settlement, it is impossible to rebuild, we are planning to be open this season for the Hotel Of Terror‘s last season.
We are grateful to everyone in the community who has supported us and stood by us through the years.”
From City Council:
“Seeking eminent domain is always a last resort for the City and has been used only a limited number of times over the past two decades.
The owners have agreed to sell the property to the City for $2 million with a contingency to delay possession until Jan. 1, 2027.
We want to thank the property owners for staying at the table with us to reach a resolution that satisfies all parties. This is the positive outcome that we have hoped for.”

This is one of the worst hailstorms I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen more cars without windshields than some that do. Be safe everyone.
