As we all know, our very own Karl Backs () is headed to the CrossFit Games at the end of August!!
We have made some merch, and the proceeds from these shirts will go straight to Karl, and hopefully pay for all his hydration and food for the weekend of competition.
The long T-shirt is unisex - and the crop is women’s. But guys, if you want to pull a Nick Matthew, we won’t hate on ya 😜

🚨ATHLETE OF THE MONTH! 🚨
▪️What is your occupation?
Lobbyist/Government Relations
▪️How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Have been doing the workouts two years but official consistent CrossFit workouts at Carpe Diem since March.
▪️What got you into CrossFit?
Seeing videos of athletes and gyms and wanting to learn the methodology and be a part of the community. The intensity and shared suffering cannot be duplicated in my opinion.
▪️What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
I’m terrified of heights but took my wife on a skydiving date to impress her when we were first dating.
▪️What drives you to be better each day?
Goal of consistently doing all movements of the RX+ workouts.
▪️Favorite movement?
Push Press
▪️Cardio or heavy weights?
Cardio
▪️If you could create your ideal workout what would it include?
Push Press, Run, Power Clean, Assault Bike, Pull-ups
▪️What music to you listen to when you work out?
Any type of fast paced music.
▪️What’s one goal you hope to achieve by the end of the year?
Muscle ups
▪️What made you choose Carpe Diem?
Seeing photos and videos of the gym. As soon as I stepped inside as a drop in, I immediately loved the atmosphere. I’ve dropped in at 47 CrossFit gyms in my traveling over the last couple years and this is the best one I’ve been to honestly.

✓ How long have you been doing CrossFit? 18 Months
✓ What got you into CrossFit? Desire to be challenged and a goal to have an absolute WAGON / DUMP TRUCK.
✓ What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you? Sold assets all over the world 🤠
✓ What drives you to be better each day? All my friends at 6AM (which is the best class btw)
✓ Favorite movement? Anything hanging from a bar or handstands

1️⃣ I started CrossFit four months ago because I needed a lifestyle change. 👏 I let myself go over the years as life's other priorities were more important. It was now time to focus on how I wanted to live the next phase of my life... It was time to "flip the switch".
2️⃣ My goals with CrossFit have and will evolve over time. I originally thought that weight loss was my primary goal, but that has changed because I am gaining strength and flexibility (and muscle). 💪 I still want to lose a few pounds, and know that I need to clean up my diet. My goals have shifted towards improving my workouts and stepping up the WOD challenges... but I don't see handstand walks in my near future.
3️⃣ Carpe Diem has been an amazing experience. I want to thank my coaches and my evening class friends for being so welcoming and supportive. It is a great group, and I am glad that I made the decision to walk in the door. 💙

✨ CrossFit is easily one of my favorite things to do. I like getting stronger; I like seeing the yahoos at 5 am every morning (even Darci ☺️); I like to start off the day having accomplished something hard‼️
When my mom passed last year, Carpe was the only place that let me escape my spiralling brain—and that solace, even for an hour, was invaluable. Good for the body; even better for the mind. ♥️
