‘A great unifier’: Willamette Valley Oregon Temple brings community together at open house Here’s how the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple — to be dedicated tomorrow, June 7 — brought together families, friends, faiths and communities at its open house.

“More than a week has passed since the open house ended for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple, and now, from above, the grounds look so different. The tents are gone. The crowds have dispersed. The busy movement of visitors has been replaced with stillness and quiet reverence.
“But inside, sacred preparation continues. In the weeks leading up to the dedication, the temple is being meticulously cleaned and readied in every detail for its holy purpose as the House of the Lord.
“I love the symbolism in that. Before something is dedicated to God, it is carefully cleansed and prepared. And the Lord asks the same of us as we enter His house. That we come with clean hands, pure hearts, and a willingness to leave the world behind for a little while.
“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart. Psalm 24:3–4
“Elder David A. Bednar taught:
‘The temple is a holy place specifically prepared for worshiping God and for receiving and remembering sacred covenants.’
“As the temple is quietly prepared for its dedication, perhaps it is also an invitation for each of us to prepare ourselves a little more fully to enter the House of the Lord.” ~Satina Tolman

The annual Stake Day of Service will be held Saturday, June 6, 9am - noon at Alton Baker Park.
Bring your work gloves and small gardening tools to help beautify the park together.
This is a joint activity with the Stakes in the valley. It’s always a lot of fun to work hand-in-hand with such a big group. The City is so pleased with what we are able to accomplish so quickly!

“I will never discount the one thing this Church does that lifts entire communities in rapid development.
“It invites men and women of all social classes and backgrounds to enter sacred buildings and make the most binding and important promises of their mortal lives. In those buildings, they promise not to steal or lie, they promise to be faithful to their spouse and children. They vow they will seek the interest of their neighbors and be peacemakers and become devoted to the idea that we are all one family—all valued and alike unto God.
“If those promises made in holy temples are kept, it transforms society faster than any aid or development project ever could. The greatest charitable development on the planet is for people to bind themselves to their God and mean it.
“So, thank goodness the Church builds 335 temples and counting. It is the greatest poverty alleviation system in the world.”

Paula Litchfield carefully painted the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. The detail and care in her work show.
That same level of craftsmanship is everywhere here: stained glass, stonework, landscaping. It all adds up to a place meant to invite reflection and peace.
People with different talents came together to create something lasting. That’s what makes this place special.
Come see it for yourself.

When are you taking your walk at the temple? 🤍
Thank you to for sharing this sweet moment with us:
“Just a few days after welcoming our first baby, we took her on her very first walk on the temple grounds. The spirit was so peaceful and comforting. Before the open house, we could only walk the grounds, but now we’ve been able to tour the temple with our daughter, and it has meant so much to our family. It’s been such a special experience.”
If you haven’t visited yet, we invite you to come experience the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple Open House before it ends.
