Recently, our team celebrated a new Ohio Historical Marker placed on the east side of Rocking Horse Community Health Center. The marker honors the life and achievements of Thomas William Burton, Springfield's first Black physician.

Burton opened a medial practice on East Main Street and established the first black-owned drug store in 1894.

The marker placed near Rocking Horse because of the center's mission to provide access to healthcare to everyone, which aligns with Burton's goals, according to Karlos Marshall, co-founder and president of The Conscious Connect CDC, which has worked to get multiple markers celebrating local Black historical achievements in Springfield. The Clark County Public Library and the Clark County Historical Society at the Heritage Center also provided research to support this marker.

Meet Rachel Litteral, Family Nurse Practitioner and Rocking Horse Health Bus Provider.

Rachel cares for patients from newborns through geriatric-aged adults and brings a strong background in nursing and family practice. She is passionate about educating patients so they feel empowered to improve their health and lives.

We're officially in July! Just over 6 weeks left to get back-to-school ready, and Rocking Horse Community Health Center is here to help! Every child ages 3-17 who visits Rocking Horse and receives any of the following services by Aug. 15 will be entered to win in our weekly prize drawing. Services include: well checks, sports physicals, asthma checks, and immunizations due for school. Call Rocking Horse at 937-324-1111 to schedule your child's appointment.

Rocking Horse Community Health Center is grateful for the continued support from Community Health Foundation (CHF Springfield). CHF has provided Rocking Horse with a $50,000 grant to support Dental Services. This funding will be used toward care ranging from cleanings to extractions for Dental patients of all ages - from pediatrics through adults. The James E. Sheehan Health Bus helps bring Rocking Horse on the road, providing primary healthcare services to Springfield neighborhoods. Services may include health screenings, well care visits, sick visits, vaccines, and chronic condition management.
