It's been a while since I've posted anything (I might have a few jobs laid out for the near future, so hopefully I'll have some before and afters soon. Maybe even a timelapse??) Anyways, I figured I'd share a little narrative about an aspect of detailing. Today I'll talk about foaming your vehicle.
Using a foam cannon to cover your car in foam has been a popular subject across Instagram and other social media because it looks good and gets you likes and shares. But it's not just for aesthetics. Foam is an excellent way to clean your car because it sits and dwells on the paint. This can be compared to as soaking your dishes to make them easier to clean. The foam will soften and loosen any dirt and contaminates left behind from power washing, and as the dirt is broke loose, it'll get pulled into the bubbles of the foam, lifting it AWAY from the paint and carrying it OFF the car as the foam rolls off the surface.
This is significant because the number one cause of swirls in the paint is improper washing. This is why detailers often refer to swirls as "love marks", because the owner was attempting to show their ride some love and clean it, but in doing so they actually caused more damage to the painted surfaces. If there was ever a perfect way to clean a car, it would be to magically lift the dirt off the car and carry it away somewhere else. Obviously we can't do that, so foam is the closest we have to that concept.
Another important function of foaming is it acts as a lubricant to combat swirls during the wash process. While there is still foam on the surface of the vehicle you can start your two bucket wash procedure and the foam will help lubricate between the paint and any contaminates your wash pad picks up, also helping to reduce swirl marks, and preventing the need to polish your car as much in the future.
Visit our page tomorrow for more tips and explanations to better care for your car, and understand why we do what we do.

I'm sure some of you are getting pretty wore out from hearing about COVID-19 anywhere and everywhere you go, I know I am at least. But, its hear and will be for a while. With the virus spreading like wildfire, I figured I would share this video in hopes some of you can take away something from it. The video was made and posted by Larry Kosilla, the founder of AMMO NYC. He makes excellent detailing videos, he's intelligent and really knows what he's talking about and also produces some of the finest auto detailing products money can buy.

One of the most important steps in detailing and caring for your car is keeping every surface protected. You can spend ALL DAY cleaning your car, laboring over your interior or paint, cleaning every crevice you can reach, but all of that is energy and time is wasted if you don't take the extra steps to protect those surfaces after its clean. Here you can see some water beading on my personal vehicle. This is evidence (usually) that there is a layer of protection on the paint. In this instance, it's a ceramic coat and a layer of spray wax.
Think of your paint as your skin. Adding a layer of protection (in this instance its ceramic) is like putting on a shirt. The spray wax then goes over the ceramic like a jacket, putting another barrier over the paint. This shields the paint from harmful UV rays, water, dirt and dust, tree sap and lots of other things. It also adds to your vehicle's shine!!!
