In the moment of identifying an obsessive thought, the most important thing to do is offer a nonjudging, friendly quality of attention to your experience. In fact, the more friendly the better!
Gently remind yourself that the thought is “real but not true.” Honor that this is a moment of awakening, of stepping out of virtual reality into the actuality of what is here.
