A VA Medical Foster Home (MFH) is an alternative long-term care option for Veterans who require a full-time caregiver and can no longer live safely at home. The Veteran lives in a private caregiver’s home that provides a private room, assistance with activities of daily living, meals, safety, and leisure activities in a home environment, rather than an assisted living or a nursing home facility. MFH rates are typically less expensive than nursing home rates. Some wartime Veterans may even qualify for an increase in certain VA pensions to help with the cost. The CAVHS Home Based Primary Care team would provide primary care for the Veteran in the MFH. The MFH must go through an application process to be approved as a MFH by the VA and receives continuous oversight from the VA MFH Program.

The CAVHS MFH Program is looking for Veteran referrals and potential caregivers with a heart for caring for Veterans in their homes in the following counties: Pulaski County, Faulkner County, Saline County, Jefferson County, Garland County, White County, Baxter County, Van Buren County and Cleburne County.
