His unique pieces are found in Museums all over the world including the Moma in San Francisco and the American Art Museum in New York. Why is Brazil called Brazil? It all comes down to one tree. When the Portuguese arrived, they found a tree with deep red wood called pau-brasil. It produced a valuable red dye, so they exported it to Europe in huge amounts. The land became known as Terra do Brasil — “land of brazilwood.” Over time, the name was shortened to Brazil.
