Yesterday’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration came with Puerto Rican coffee, pastries, and a whole lot of deliciousness! 😋

A HUGE thank-you to our amazing PTO and St. Edward families for treating our staff and helping us celebrate the rich cultures and traditions that make our school family so special.

Needless to say…the coffee was strong, the pastries were muy delicioso, and our staff was VERY happy!

Science is a little sweeter in 3rd Grade!

Our 3rd graders recently put the Scientific Method to the test with a gummy bear osmosis experiment! They placed gummy bears in water, salt water, and vinegar, then made predictions, observed the results, and learned that sometimes science doesn’t go quite the way you expect.

Most students predicted their gummy bears would shrink or melt—but instead, the bears absorbed water and salt water and grew bigger! The vinegar bears ended up a little smaller and much more delicate, showing just how differently substances can interact.

A little experiment, a lot of curiosity, and some very happy scientists! 🔬✨

A few weeks ago, our 8th graders got a little glimpse of what’s waiting for them beyond the Monarch hallways!

Our students had the opportunity to visit two wonderful Catholic high schools here in Houston: Incarnate Word Academy and St. Thomas High School. They got to tour the campuses, learn more about student life, and start thinking about the exciting next chapter that awaits them after St. Edward.

We’re so proud of our 8th graders and the young men and women they’re becoming! What a fun opportunity to explore, dream a little, and see where God might be leading them next. ✨

Our Monarchs have been discovering the beauty of God’s creation through art! Over the last few weeks, students have explored the seven elements of art: line, shape, color, texture, space, form, and value.

For their latest project, students created leaf designs using glue to make their lines and shapes, then added watercolor to bring their creations to life. ​

Through art, our students are learning not only how to create beauty, but how to slow down, notice it, and recognize the beauty of the Creator in the world around them.

Our 6th graders are finding their next great read!

All of our 6th graders have chosen their novels for the first quarter, and they took their reading to the halls!

From different stories and genres, each student found a book from their classroom library that most caught their interest. They’ll spend the quarter reading, journaling about their novels each week, and sharing favorite parts with their friends.

There’s something pretty special about finding a book you just can’t put down. 📖✨

The dynamic duo was at it again!

Yesterday, Father Christian and Mrs. Parfait joined fellow pastors and principals for the Pastor/Principal Luncheon hosted by the Catholic Schools Office. It was a great opportunity to gather with other Catholic school leaders, share ideas, and celebrate the work happening across our Archdiocese.

And of course, when Father runs into another St. Edward parishioner who's also a principal, a selfie is basically required! They made sure to snap a selfie with Dr. Mendoza, principal at Holy Ghost Catholic School and a proud member of the St. Edward family!

We love seeing our Monarch leaders out representing St. Edward! 🙏💙✨

Our Monarchs are ready to STEP UP!

Last Friday’s Steps for Students pep rally was full of Monarch spirit! Students and staff who had already registered got to add a jewel to our crown as we celebrated our commitment to Catholic education.

King Edward made an appearance, and our Monarch Cheerleaders brought the energy, leading us in showing our St. Edward spirit! 📣

And we’re not slowing down! St. Edward is currently #2 in the Archdiocese for fundraising, and we want to keep that momentum going!!

Who needs coffee when you’ve got Father Christian at car line?!

We love starting our mornings with Father out there greeting our Monarchs, waving to our families, and bringing a little joy to the morning rush! 🙏

And Father has a special message for our parents: thank you! He is so grateful for your cooperation, patience, and beautiful spirit of peace during car line. We know mornings can be a little…hectic 😅, but your teamwork helps keep everyone safe and gets our day started on the right foot! ✨💙

🇺🇸 Remembering 9/11

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001—a day that so many of our staff members and parents will never forget. For those who lived through it, it is one of those moments when you can still remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news.

Today, our Monarchs took time to remember and pray for those who lost their lives, as well as the first responders, survivors, and families whose lives were forever changed. With the flag flying at half-staff, Señora Boada led her classes outside to pray a Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be around the flag in remembrance.

Mrs. Gerczak’s classes also had a unique opportunity to participate in a virtual, interactive experience with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, where students were able to ask survivors and family members of survivors questions and hear their stories firsthand.

It was a meaningful day of prayer, remembrance, and learning—connecting a moment in history that many of us remember firsthand with the next generation who will carry its memory forward.

✏️ 7th Grade Writers in Action!

Our 7th graders have been hard at work putting their writing skills into practice as they wrap up their Saint virtue analysis essays!

Students have been learning how to:
- Write strong introductions with a clear claim
- Use quotations as evidence and cite them correctly in MLA format
- Support their ideas with details, examples, and thoughtful explanations
- Analyze how their chosen saint practiced virtue in his or her life

This project is an exciting introduction to the analytical and claim-based writing our students will continue developing across English, science, history, and religion.

We are so proud of the diligence, thoughtfulness, and hard work our 7th graders are putting into their writing! Keep it up, Monarchs!
