During my week in Guyana, I met Pinky, the woman whose soursop leaves I’ve been using in my Soursop bitters, I also walked her beautiful land.

In this video, she shares traditional uses of plantain leaves used in hair oils by Indian people, she shows us broadleaf thyme—the same kind we grow at home that was started from a cutting brought from Guyana—and she also introduces one of her three soursop trees.

Pinky gifted me an abundance of leaves on this trip and promised to keep harvesting, drying, and saving them for me. A tree she once cut back because she had more leaves than she could use and give away now has a new purpose. 💚

Knowing the hands that harvest these leaves and seeing where they grow makes me even more proud of what I create and share with you. This is part of the story behind your soursop bitters.

My mother-in-law has brought me soursop leaves from this beautiful soul before, and I use them to make my bitters—but this trip, I finally had the opportunity to meet her, walk her land, see everything she grows, and stand beneath the very soursop trees my leaves come from.

She gifted me several bins of naturally dried leaves and promised to continue harvesting, drying, and saving them especially for me 😆
