Today we’re celebrating Dot Day at Hirsch Elementary!
Dot Day is inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ beloved book, The Dot, which tells the story of a student who begins with one simple dot and discovers the power of creativity, courage, and believing in yourself. What began as a story has grown into an international celebration encouraging students to “make their mark” and see where their creativity takes them.
In Ms. Bretting’s art classes, our Hawks brought that message to life!
Pre-K students created a collaborative Dot Day banner. Kindergarten and 1st grade explored color with tie-dye color-diffusing circles. 2nd and 3rd grade learned about artist Wassily Kandinsky and created dot paintings inspired by his artwork. 4th grade created circle and line collages using colorful paper, while 5th grade explored cityscapes and perspective to create their own circle cityscapes.
We are so proud of the creativity, effort, and imagination our students put into each project! Their artwork is now displayed in the main hallway for everyone to enjoy.
A special shout-out to Ms. Bretting for inspiring our students to create, take risks, and believe in what they can do!
Remember the Dot Day motto: “Just make a mark and see where it takes you!”
