Getting this aluminum Hemi block honed for the new sleeves after the originals decided to delete themselves from use.

This one is tops for something we’ve never seen before. If you look closely you can see where the sleeve separated from the fl**ge while the engine was running. The rings were ripped from the pistons and parts of the sleeve went through the exhaust, amongst other damage.

The block was likely machined with a sharp edge at the top of the bore/bottom of the counterbore and/or the sleeve did not have enough of a radius/relief under the fl**ge where that counterbore edge is causing a stress fracture.

We get asked all the time why we take brand new heads apart to check them and this is why. Quality of parts now is nothing like it was pre-covid era. The tips on these valves were so rough across the top, not square to the stem, and sharp as a razor on the corner. This translates into a valve face that isn’t concentric, as well.

If you’re buying your own parts thinking you’re going to save yourself some money, it usually won’t. If your engine builder is charging you to do this for parts you brought in it’s because they don’t want the issues that will come from stuff like this being left as-is.
