This Is What It's Like To Be A Mom When You're Estranged From Your Own Mother "It was a choice I made at the time for [my son], but I really think, in choosing him, I also chose myself.”

When you've showered and swiped on some lip color to prep for a podcast :).
Loved chatting with Jessica for her new !
We mused about being therapists and book nerds, how much we knew about parenting before we had kids, post partum anxiety, and the importance of boundaries/how hard they can be sometimes.
I'll let y'all know when the season drops. I can't wait to listen to all of the episodes!

Currently reading......
I am obsessed with by .
It breaks down the relationship between a child's brain, body, and behavior in a way I've never seen before, and THEN gives you practical application for each age range from newborn to teenagers.
It's my new favorite as a parent and a practitioner. I am recommending it to everyone I know. It's knocked No Drama Discipline out of first place for my recommended books to parents and that is saying something.
Run don't walk to get this. I listened to the audiobook and then bought a paper copy for necessary highlights and bookmarks for later.

The best way parenthood has helped me grow is made me less of a perfectionist. I've learned to let little things go in a way I know I would not have been able to without becoming a parent and thinking of how that would affect my children. And also just not having the time to care about everything if we are being honest.
Yeah, parenting is hard. No one would tell you it is a breeze. But the hard things in life are what make us grow and stretch and shift. And parenthood might be the thing that changes us most.

At the end of my book , I give a collection of advice from parents that fall into a few themes. This is my favorite one.
This is what I love about children. They are magic. My children have brought me back to the world of childhood.
The world of play and mess and laughter and silliness and doing things just because.
As adults, we lose those things in the hustle of work and chores and comparison.
Your kids can bring you back there if you let them. Follow their lead. See what happens.

No joke, I sometimes chant to myself "this will end" "this will end" when I am sitting with my preschooler in the middle of a meltdown and feel like I am about to lose it.
All those people who tell you to enjoy every minute? F**k em.
Yes, find things to enjoy. Savor those tiny moments when you can. But every minute? Come on.
Sometimes we are soaking in the joy. Sometimes we are just surviving until the next nap. All of it is normal, and all of it is finite. You can do this.

None of us have it all together. None of us know what we are doing all the time. We all need help. Parenthood is the ultimate mess and magic of being human.
