I keep seeing patients who come with previous orders for Santyl on DRY ESCHAR.

Santyl is “collagenase” meaning it eats collagen fibers. Collagen fibers no longer exist in eschar.

This is a very expensive waste!

If you’re not sure what to do with a wound obscured by eschar- remember the 3 things you need to heal a wound- check the blood flow, keep infection free and check prealbumin!

Conservative treatment like betadine moistened gauze to keep the eschar dry and stable until you get answers to the three things above.

Remember- dry eschar good. Wet eschar BAD!

Stop with the santyl and hydrogel on eschar!! 🫣🫣🫣
