As we celebrate Pride Month, we honor Bayard Rustin—a brilliant civil rights strategist, organizer of the March on Washington, and one of the few openly gay leaders of his era. Despite facing discrimination for both his race and sexuality, Rustin never stopped fighting for justice, equality, and human dignity. His courage reminds us that our movements are strongest when everyone is included.

This Pride Month, United Ministries in Christ Church pauses to remember the countless lives lost simply because they chose to live honestly, love openly, and walk in their truth.

We honor those whose voices were silenced, whose journeys were cut short, and whose courage paved the way for future generations to live with greater freedom and dignity.

As people of faith, we believe every person is created with purpose, value, and worth. Love should never be met with hatred. Authenticity should never be met with violence. No one should have to fear for being who they are.

Today, we light a candle of remembrance for those we have lost and a beacon of hope for those still seeking acceptance, safety, and belonging.

May we continue to build a world where love is celebrated, truth is honored, and every person is treated with compassion and respect.
