🐆 Rainforest Falls Day 3 reminded us that God is our safe place.

Today our adventurers met Dottie the Ocelot and learned that when we feel scared, worried, tired, or unsure, God is always with us. What a good reminder for kids and grownups too! 💚

The day was full of singing, Bible adventures, cozy rainforest moments, outdoor games, bubbles, laughter, and lots of fun with friends. We loved seeing kids worship with big motions, explore hands-on activities, and discover that God is their place of refuge.

Another beautiful day in the rainforest! 🌿🌧️

🐸 Rainforest Falls Day 2 was full of fun, friendship, and a few sneaky surprises!

Today our adventurers met Seymour the Glass Frog and learned that God knows everything about us. We even saw it in action when Mrs. Carley tried to sneak a bite of Dr. Flutterby’s cheeseburger butterfly trap. Nice try, Mrs. Carley, but God sees everything! 👀💚

Kids made transparent frog art, grew friendships, played outdoor games, sang together, and kept exploring God’s truth through Bible adventures and Sticky Scripture.

What a joy to see kids laughing, learning, creating, and discovering that they are fully known and fully loved by God. 🌿🌧️

🌿 Day 1 of Rainforest Falls was WILD at Ferrysburg Community Church! 🦜🌧️
After lots of praying, planning, decorating, and getting ready, our rainforest adventurers have officially arrived, and the fun has begun!

Today, we discovered that God didn’t just create the trees, animals, waterfalls, and all of nature. He created us in His image! Just like Tango the Quetzal, every kid is wonderfully unique, special, and loved by God. 💚

Our first adventure took us to the Sing & Play Lagoon, where things got a little misty and a whole lot of fun! Then our explorers headed off to Bible Adventures, wild outdoor games, Sticky Scripture, and the Imagination Station.

We learned, laughed, sang, played, and explored God’s amazing creation together. What a great first day in the rainforest! 🌴✨

Our vision at FCC is to become more like Jesus by growing closer to God, deeper in his family, and louder in his world. Everything we do is aimed at that. So how does Rainforest Falls VBS fit in with our vision?

Closer to God - our kids and volunteers hear the stories from God’s word, worship, and reflect on God’s work in their lives throughout the week.

Deeper in God’s Family - relationships are formed among kids, student volunteers, and adults. This week especially prioritizes intergenerational relationships.

Louder in God’s World - many of the kids who come to VBS don’t have a church family. Every day they hear the Good News and have opportunities to respond to God’s love.

Rainforest Falls isn’t just a one-off, unrelated event that we do each summer. It is powerfully pursuant to our goal of helping people become more like Jesus. It is one of the most important things we do toward growing closer to God, deeper in his family, and louder in his world. Rainforest Falls begins today. Please pray that we can live out our vision this week!

If you’ve been at church over the last couple of weeks, you have seen the preparations for Rainforest Falls in motion. Each week, the Commons, the hallways, and activity sites become more fully a jungle. Behind the scenes, supplies are being ordered, volunteers are being recruited and trained, and name tags are being printed. For something that lasts just four days, you wouldn’t believe all the work that goes into it!

There’s an old saying: If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. In order for us to put on an impactful week that effectively conveys the love of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we need to be ready and prepared. But that preparation is not just for Lori Houskamp or Robin Spicer and her crew of decorators to do. It is preparation we can all be involved in. The most important preparation is prayer. Without God’s grace and power, lives won’t be changed. We need you to help us prepare by praying for the week of Rainforest Falls. Please keep the leaders, the attenders, and the week in your prayers. If you’d like to receive emails giving you specific ways to pray, send Lori an email at [email protected]. With your help, we will be prepared for a great week of FCC’s Rainforest Falls Adventure!

Summer is a time to take a break from school, go on vacation, and find a more leisurely pace to life. But it is also a great time to invest in our spiritual lives. We provided FCC families with a summer bucket filled with fun ways to grow spiritually. Who knew that beach balls and sidewalk chalk could help us grow closer to God!?

Yesterday, during our worship service, we recognized and honored our graduates. Students who had completed high school and college were congratulated for their achievement. When we think about graduation, we quickly think about being finished. We have completed our studies. We are done. But what we all know deep down is that we’re not really done at all. We’ve finished one thing, but will begin the next. Even the term “graduate” does not mean completion. It means advancing to the next level.

As we go through the middle and later years of our lives, we discover that we are never finished. One end is a new beginning. Retirement is the entrance to a new way of being and growing. Learning one set of things simply makes future learning possible. Even if we think of death as the ultimate graduation, we will have eternity to continue learning about God and his new creation. Our graduates should be proud of what they’ve accomplished. But in life and even for eternity, we are never done. We are always graduating (but never graduated).
