CHC has just received excellent news: "Congratulations. You've earned a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency on GuideStar!"

This is a big deal! This rating system affords donors a holistic view of a charity’s effectiveness and reliability through an expansive, nuanced, and evolved method of evaluation. The framework illuminates the overall health and performance of an organization in four key areas: Leadership & Adaptability helps donors understand if a charity has clarity of purpose, Accountability & Finance explains if they are transparent and fiscally capable, Culture & Community shows who they are and how they engage with their constituents, and Impact & Results explains what they have accomplished. Its comprehensive ratings shine a light on the cost-effectiveness and overall health of a charity’s programs, including measures of stability, efficiency, and sustainability. The metrics inform donors of not just where their dollars go but what their dollars do. Ratings assess charities’ adherence to good governance and illuminate strategic thinking, leadership development, and ability to respond to challenges in addition to a charity’s treatment of its employees and relationship to the communities it serves.

This is Tom, the founder of CHC. I know many of you come here to hear the latest podcast from Red and me. Unfortunately, I have made the decision to discontinue doing podcasts for my own mental and emotional health. I love helping people get their lives back on track and seeing them become contributing members of society. That is what keeps me going. However, dealing with dishonest and lazy probation officers, legislators who are either extremely ignorant or just don't care about people, and the Florida Department of Corrections which promotes inhumane and unnecessary conditions just plain wears me out. These three factors have brought me to the edge of burnout several times.

Hence, I can no longer do the podcasts because they are a stark reminder of the things I cannot change. We talk about the lazy, dishonest, ignorant, and downright mean people that seem to overpopulate the "justice" system. We try to rally people to make a change in the system. But, the system never seems to change.

In order to be the best version of myself, I must concentrate on just helping people when they exit incarceration and become citizens again. It is not in my best mental health interest to be reminded weekly of the myriad roadblocks and the futility of trying to fight those roadblocks. Thus, I am discontinuing the podcasts.

I am sorry if I have let anyone down...

This is Tom, the founder of Citizens Helping Citizens RAP. Just want to let you know that you will not find many updates on this page. We assist about 25 people per month to find jobs, housing, and a mentor when they are released from incarceration. It is our goal to help each person become a tax-paying responsible member of society. However, I do not publicize who we help or where they are working. I try to keep everyone under the radar so as to minimize distractions in their efforts to reassimilate into society.

As of December 2024, we have assisted roughly 3,000 men and women in our eleven years with only seven returning to prison.
