Reminiscing on our last week of school already 🥹☀️

We packed SO much fun into our final days together:
✨ Building forts in PJs with our favorite stuffies
✨ Memory books
✨ An epic dance party
✨ Tie dye fun
✨ Tons of games
✨ Shopping at Class Store
✨ Crafting ALL the things — Perler beads, origami bookmarks, air dry clay, bracelets, and more
✨ Looking back at how much we’ve grown and changed since the beginning of the year
✨ A movie day
✨ Pizza party fun

…and so many sweet memories in between. ❤️

What a gift this school year has been. I’m so thankful for this amazing group of kids and the joy, laughter, growth, and friendships we shared together this year.

💚🌎Happy Earth Day! 🌎💚

Today, the kids worked in groups to brainstorm creative ways to reuse everyday household items—and they came up with SO many great ideas!

I loved seeing their creativity and teamwork in action. They really thought outside the box!

They found new uses for items like:
• Coffee containers
• Glass jars
• Cardboard boxes
• Bottle caps
• Old t-shirts
• Shopping bags

Such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate taking care of our Earth! ♻️

For the past month, we’ve been learning all about inventors and inventions. Today, the kids kicked off their own research projects by choosing an inventor that sparked their curiosity!

They’ll be using their research to write a short speech and then bring it all to life with a Wax Museum presentation. 🎩✨

Our inventors include:

Agnes Bertha Marshall (first ice cream freezing machine)

Ruth Handler (Barbie)

Ole Kirk Christiansen (LEGO)

Nikola Tesla

Colonel Harland Sanders (KFC)

Theodore Maiman (laser)

George Nissen (trampoline)

Siegfried Bettmann (dirt bikes)

Elliot Handler (Hot Wheels)

Ralph H. Baer (video game console)

Nancy Johnson (hand-cranked ice cream freezer)

Charles Alderton (Dr Pepper)

John Spilsbury (jigsaw puzzles)

Karl von Drais (bicycle)

Margarete Steiff (stuffed animals)

Frank Epperson (Popsicles)

Today was all about reading, researching, and jotting down notes—and the room was buzzing with excitement. So many “Whoa! I didn’t know that!” moments already. We can’t wait to see these inventors come to life at our Wax Museum!

❄️📖We just wrapped up a novel study with the book Stone Fox! 📖❄️

The kids were completely hooked by the story… but wow — they strongly disliked the ending. 😭 (Which led to some GREAT discussions!)

I love our novel studies because they are about so much more than just reading. Along the way, the kids:
✨ Learn and use new vocabulary
✨ Reflect deeply on characters and their choices
✨ Trace the plot from beginning to end
✨ Think through problems and possible solutions
✨ Make predictions (and defend them!)
✨ And build shared memories as a group with each book we read

There is something so special about experiencing a story together — the gasps, the debates, the emotional reactions, and the connections made along the way. These are the moments that turn kids into lifelong readers. ❤️📚

The kids are anxiously waiting to see what novel we read next!

🌻⭐️ Today we celebrated Kansas Day! ⭐️🌻

We kicked things off by creating a timeline filled with fun and interesting facts about Kansas history.

We also learned about many of Kansas’s state symbols, including the:
🐦 State bird
🌻 State flower
🌳 State tree
🌱 State grass
🦬 State mammal
🐸 State amphibian
🦎 State reptile
🐞 State insect
🏜️ State soil
📜 State motto
…and more!

Then—probably the most exciting part—we wrapped up with a SNACKtivity to explore Kansas geography! 😋🗺️
The kids took a bite out of the corner of a graham cracker, spread peanut butter across the top, and used toothpicks to “draw” important features of Kansas, including:
📍 The state capitol
🌊 The Kansas River
🌊 The Arkansas River
🌊 The Missouri River
⛰️ Mt. Sunflower

Best part? They got to eat their maps when they were finished!

It was such a fun day learning about the great state we live in! 🌻💛

We think it’s so important to be able to find ways for kids to volunteer in tangible ways! We stumbled upon KindCraft a few years ago when we had the opportunity to help put together fleece blankets for kids around Christmas time.

This week some kids got together and volunteered at their Crafting for Canines & Cats event to make toys for animals at various shelters!

They are currently running a fundraiser campaign called “Fill Our Hearts” to raise money to continue providing meaningful service projects that offer opportunities for families and kids to volunteer while also creating a meaningful impact within our local communities!!

If you’re interested in giving, check the link in the comments! You can read more about how the funds work.

If you want to give in person and know a RLA family, we have a donation can at RLA to collect funds!

If you’re not able to give but would still like to support Kind Craft, please like and follow their page! You can also share this post or posts from the Kind Craft page to help spread the word!!
