🌑️As we move into warmer weather, the risk of lawn damaging disease will begin to rise.

🦠 Summer Patch is one of the first diseases to show up as soil temperatures creep above 65 degrees.

🌱 It can be hard to identify at first as it attacks the root system and rhizomes of the plant. It primarily affects bluegrass in lawns and is distinguishable by the "frog eye" appearance as shown above.

🏑 For our clients vulnerable to this disease, we have proactively applied their first Disease Prevention Treatment.

If you notice this or any other irregular discoloration or browning in your lawn, feel free to reach out to us for proper diagnosis and treatment before it does any further damage.

🌱 The answer was of course Leaf Spot.

🏑 With the cool, cloudy and rainy conditions we have experienced lately, this disease begins to pop up in lawns.

🌱 Drier, sunnier weather will usually help your lawn rebound from this disease on its own.

🏑 Mowing at a higher setting and only watering as needed will also help your lawn recover, should you notice any of these lesions on the grass blades.

We are busy putting down Fungicide Treatments for clients who experience Summer Patch disease, which we will touch on in our next post.

🌱 Are you seeing a lot of this in your lawn lately? Is it a w**d taking over my lawn?

🏑 Often mistaken for a w**d, the bluegrass in your lawn begins to produce an abundant amount of seedhead as soil temperatures continue to rise.

🌱 This is a normal occurrence each spring and typically lasts for a few weeks.

🏑 To help keep your lawn looking it's best, increased mowing frequency is recommended.

🌱 Your lawn is directing a lot of its energy towards seedhead production and away from leaf tissue production. If the lawn is allowed to get too long it can stress things out, creating a "stalky" appearance and loss of good color.

❄️ Freeze Damage has been noticed on lawns across our area this week.

🌱 Lawns were greening up nicely with our mild winter then we got hit with sub zero wind chills, snow and 50 mph wind gusts, quickly drying out the leaf tissue of your lawn.

🏑 This has lead to brown and discolored areas in lawns.

What can you do to help your lawn recover?

πŸ’¦ Provide the lawn with some good moisture of 3 deep waterings each week in the absence of rain.
🌱 Give the lawn a fresh cut to remove freeze damaged grass tips, allowing new growth to make its way through the damaged grass easier.
🏑 Be patient. We are at the mercy of mother nature. It will take a few weeks and ideal growing conditions for your lawn to bounce back.

🌱 Our lawns have truly experienced all 4 seasons this week. They've been warm, they've froze, they've been wind whipped and are soon to heat up with 90 degree days in the forecast.

πŸ’¦ Providing your lawn with a little moisture to help combat early season stress as well as mowing off some freeze damaged grass tips will help your lawn through this roller coaster start to the season.

🏑 Also, if your Pre-Emergent treatment hasn't been rained or watered in yet, a little moisture will help water it in as needed.

🌼 Forsythia is blooming! This is mother nature's way of saying it's time to get your pre-emergent down.

🏑 We are busy finishing up our Early Spring Pre-Emergent and Fertilization Treatments.

🌑️With much warmer weather in the forecast, soil temperatures will begin to rise quickly.

Contact us today to schedule your Pre-Emergent treatment to help stop crabgrass and other grassy w**ds from germinating.

🌱 For an almost instant, quicker green up, performing the Spring Clean Up Mow will remove the winter damaged grass tips and expose newer, green growth underneath.

🏑 To do so, lower your mowing height low enough to remove the brown grass tips, bagging up the lawn clippings. Make sure not to mow too low that you scalp the lawn.

β˜€οΈ Once this winter dead is removed the sun will go to work warming up your soil and stimulating the photosynthesis process on the exposed green leaf tissue. All of this will lead to a quicker green up!

🌱 Make sure to raise your mowing height back to 3 inches for the rest of spring and mulch in
your lawn clippings.

🏑 This would be a great idea to do over the next few weeks as we begin to slowly emerge from winter dormancy.

🌱 Even though it may be winter we are still working hard towards enhancing our lawns by providing clients with lawn mower blade sharpening and tune up services.

🏑 Sharpening your lawn mower blades is a critical step towards a great looking lawn.

🌱 Dull mower blades rip and tear the grass, leaving behind a frayed grass tip (as pictured above). This will leave your lawn looking dull and increase the risk for lawn damaging disease.

🏑 Harmful pathogens have more surface area to enter and infect the grass plant when the tips are frayed.
