EWU creative writing students explore Yellowstone’s ‘wildness’ with wolves and words In professor Jonathan Johnson’s creative writing classes at Eastern Washington University, students receive feedback and constructive criticism to improve their writing and creative ventures.

Our natural environment is changing and that’s why Kendra Langford Shaw wove climate change into the narrative of her novel, “The Pillagers’ Guide to Arctic Pianos.”

She sees the effects, in very different ways, in her two home states. While wildfires grow in size and intensity in Montana, waters are rising in Alaska.

“Just like us, they’re trying to figure out like how do you build a life in a place where the land is literally disappearing out from under you, and what does that mean?”

Shaw, a novelist and city council member in Billings, joins the Northwest Passages Book Club
this Wednesday at the Montvale Event Center.
