Upriver Fire Update – Evacuation Change Effective 6:00 PM, June 19, 2026

Beginning at 6:00 PM tonight, the only remaining evacuation area for the Upriver Fire will be under a Level 1 evacuation notice.

Level 1 means conditions exist that could threaten your area. Stay informed, review your evacuation plan, and be prepared to leave if conditions change.

As residents return and recovery efforts continue, Spokane County Fire District 9 crews have placed fire line tape around hazardous areas. For your safety, please do not cross the fire line tape, as hidden dangers may still exist and could result in injury.

You can expect to see our firefighters and personnel throughout the neighborhood over the coming weeks. If you have questions, please stop and talk with us.

Community members are also encouraged to attend the Upriver Fire Community Connect Center tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, Spokane Valley. Representatives from District 9 and partner agencies will be available to answer questions and provide recovery information and resources.

If you are unable to attend and have questions, please send us a private message on Facebook.

Thank you for your patience, support, and cooperation throughout this incident.

Wildfire smoke can affect your body and your mind! When smoke keeps you from the activities you enjoy, take care of yourself, and check in on those around you. Think about what helps you stay grounded and calm: - Get plenty of rest - Connect with friends and family - Try calming practices like meditation, yoga, stretching, journaling or listening to music - Reach out for help if you’re feeling overwhelmed Your well-being matters, especially during times of stress. Find more resources at SmokeReadySpokane.org.

Improving your indoor air quality can reduce your exposure to microscopic smoke particles. Here’s how: - Close windows and doors - Run a HEPA portable air cleaner or use a box fan with an attached MERV 13 filter - Avoid burning candles, incense, or scented products - Skip frying or broiling food If it’s hot and smoky, use your cooling system if you have one. If you don’t have a way to stay cool at home, spend time in a cool location or seek shelter elsewhere. Find more information, including how to set up a Cleaner Air Room, at SmokeReadySpokane.org.

Smoke from nearby and distant wildfires can affect our air quality. There are several ways to find current air quality and locations of large wildfires. One way is AirNow’s Fire and Smoke map at https://fire.airnow.gov/. You can download the free AirNow app for your phone or sign up to receive texts or email notifications. If you plan to travel within Washington and want to know the locations of the large fires and air quality conditions, check out the Smoke Blog.

Exposure to wildfire smoke can cause or worsen several health problems, ranging from minor to severe. When smoke is present, the worst symptoms occur more often in people with pre-existing health conditions, though anyone can have symptoms or health problems. Some symptoms are burning eyes, a runny nose, coughing, fatigue, headache, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Find more information at SmokeReadySpokane.org.
