We are so deeply grateful to everyone who stepped up, dropped off, and donated bottled water during last week’s heatwave! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we were able to send our guests out the door each day with cold, clean water to stay safe and hydrated.

While the extreme temperatures have cooled down a bit, our need for bottled water continues. If you are out grocery shopping or on Amazon this week and able to pick up an extra case of bottled water, we would be so grateful for your support!

📣 PROPOSED LIBRARY CUTS: We Need Your Voice!

📚 The Central Library, home to one of our New Leaf Café locations, is facing potential service reductions due to a projected funding shortfall in 2027. Depending on the funding outcome, proposed reductions could include Monday closures at the Central Library, reduced operating hours, and other service cuts. These changes would not only affect library patrons but would also reduce customer traffic and sales at New Leaf Café, limiting both earned revenue and workforce development opportunities for our program participants.

More broadly, the library is a critical community resource that serves thousands of Spokane residents through access to technology, educational programming, meeting spaces, and outreach services. The proposed cuts would have ripple effects throughout our community and among organizations that rely on the library as a partner.

We see this as an opportunity for advocacy. The Spokane Public Library is encouraging community members and partners to contact their City Council representative and Mayor Lisa Brown to express support for fully funding the library's budget needs. The library also asks supporters to copy [email protected] and [email protected] on their messages. According to the library, securing the requested funding is necessary to avoid significant service reductions.

Join us in celebrating the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We support inclusion in inner communities by removing barriers for people with disabilities. Enjoy a free resource fair, live music, speakers, Free food, a kids zone, and new this year: Wheelchair Obstacle Course. Tickets for free raffles, prizes, and trivia contest.

Helping Our Neighbors Stay Safe in the heat ☀️

Okay, Team Transitions, starting today, we are facing an extreme stretch of hot weather, with temperatures soaring into the mid-to-high 90s!

For the 40 to 50 women who visit The Hearth daily—and the even greater numbers we welcome during extreme weather—staying cool and hydrated is a matter of basic safety.

Can you help us keep our guests safe, hydrated, and protected from the sun?

📍 Most-Needed Items:
- Disposable Bottled Water (so we can send each guest away with one when we close for the day)
- Sunscreen
- Lip Balm / Chapstick
- Body Wipes

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, participants from The Hearth are enjoying monthly field trips! Each adventure is fully covered—including event passes, meal vouchers, and bus passes—giving these wonderful ladies a chance to experience the best of our community.

For their recent outing, the group spent a beautiful day exploring River Park Square and capped off the fun with a sweet ice cream treat. 🍦❤️
