The Farm Chicks
šŖSerena, Founder of The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade FairšSpokane, WA I describe it as the best weekend of the year.
In 2002, after my long-held dreams of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods, I held my first āsaleā in my neighborās barn with a handful of friends and neighbors. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fair

Filled with š , contentment, and love after 24 years. Thank you for being there with me. Iāve run The Farm Chicks Fair with the mindset of prosperity for all - a place where everyone is welcome, weāre treated equally, and everyone succeeds. I wish this for the world too. Over the years Iāve shared deeply personally things about myself because I have a platform and itās important for me to help normalize things that many people arenāt familiar with. Itās Pride month and as the mom of a transgender daughter, I have the opportunity to say that trans people exist. Our family is no different than yours and deserves to have access to spaces that everyone else does too. Thank you for being here with me for all this time. I have cherished it. Now The Farm Chicks moves forward, minus the fair. I plan to keep creating happy little things and so much more. From time to time Iāll share them here. This isnāt goodbye, just, Iāll see you soon. Love, me ā¦ā¦.. oh! and š³ļøāā§ļøš³ļøāšš

This is really hard, but here goes. Iāve lived with a secret for many years and Iāve never shared it because I donāt want to be treated differently, like I have a handicap, and not taken seriously. Right now my business has a lot of exposure, Iām getting a lot of views, and I think that sharing my story can make a difference for others like me. Did I cry before deciding to finally share? Yes. Will I regret this tomorrow? Definitely yes, but here goes. I have autism.
Aspergerās, if weāre going to be completely transparent, even though itās not really called that anymore. Autism Spectrum Disorder. (That name sounds terrible to me. A disorder!) Itās a spectrum and those of us who are on it exist in a very wide range, and it affects all of us differently. A therapist once said when you meet someone with autism, youāve met one person with autism. We arenāt to be stereotyped or grouped. We arenāt weirdos or freaks.
Navigating life on the spectrum can be really hard for me. I struggle with new things, social interactions, have a strong sense of fairness and justice and when thatās missing, it affects me in a big way. With every ounce of me, I want everyone to have a chance. It also affects me in great ways too. I can hyper-fixate and make things great because of it. I have a strong sense of empathy. I feel things deeply.
Thereās a million more things that exist on my highlight reel of what makes me⦠ME but thatās not important right now. Iām doing this for and I hope by sharing, it might change your perception of autism.
Love, me

Sometimes I see little moments that are worth capturing. Then Iāll look back on my camera roll and think oh! the garland auto shop with the old Santa on the rooftop that I bet theyāve been placing up there every Christmas since theyāve operated and oh! The Womanās Club looking so lovely dusted in snow! and oh! the Duncan Gardens are so regal, even in winter.

I was so fascinated with the table of hand-labeled fruits at the San Gimignano farmers market. Oh, and the rustic hay-wrapped cheese wheels too!
