The KBARA repeater system consists of several privately owned linked Amateur Radio repeaters. It covers an area from northeastern Washington to northeastern Oregon, and from western Montana to central Washington. It is with a heavy heart that I report that John, W7OE has become a silent key. A post from his daughter, Jennifer, on his FB page indicated he passed away suddenly Thusday of natural causes. Some of us that were regulars at Perkins met Jennifer when she was a waitress there for a short time. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
John was very active in KBARA for years. Between him and Art, WB7AUK they owned most of the repeaters and kept the system running. He was still active with the club at least pre-pandemic. Many posts on here of him shoveling show to get to the 147.38 repeater in the winter on Mica Peak.
John was an avid CW enthusiest. Also many posts of his contacts on here as well. He would always be at Field Day with his trusty Icom IC-735 making one CW contact after another. We will miss not seeing him operating at Field Day this year.
I have personally known John since I became involved with KBARA back in the early 80's.
John you will be missed as a valued member of the KBARA family.

Working auora on 6 meters. Due to the movement of the auoral curtain the signals have a raspy sound. W7OE near Spokane and N7RY in western Oregon. The second station was too weak to copy. De W7OE

This was sent to me by Roger, formerly WN7BOC, WA7BOC then K7SJ and now VA1RST. We used to get on 80M CW and ragchew as Novice stations. This photo was taken in 1965 of my shack in my parents' basement. The big rig on the left is a Collins 30G military surplus transmitter using an 813 tube with 200 Watts out. On the desk is a Hallicrafters S20R receiver. I no longer have these early photos so I am grateful to Roger for this photo. De W7OE
