(A bit of non-donut history):
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution, stating: “That the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation”

This resolution created the first official national flag, known as the Stars and Stripes, during the Revolutionary War, when colonial troops had previously fought under various flags with different symbols and slogans

While Betsy Ross is popularly credited with sewing the first flag, historical evidence confirms that Francis Hopkinson, a New Jersey delegate, designed it, and Ross likely produced ensigns and pennants for the Philadelphia Navy.

Flag Day has been celebrated with patriotic ceremonies, parades, and educational events, often led by schools and civic organizations. The holiday honors the flag as a symbol of national unity, freedom, and American identity, reflecting its historical role from the Revolutionary War to the present...

We start with our incredible yeast-raised dough and slathered it with tart Key Lime filling and chopped it until the unique tangy-tart flavor enrobed every piece of dough. We let it rest overnight to maximize the flavor and this morning we proofed and fried to a perfect golden brown. But we weren't done yet... We drench each fritter with our house made glaze and then finish it with key lime and vanilla drizzle. The perfect finish! While they last...

These Sunday-only features are a break from 'baked' cinnamon rolls to the classic fried donut we are so proud to offer. These Cinnamon Snails are Karen's precision recipe to offer you a Classically New "Retro" Cinnamon 'Snail' that you haven't seen in years. While supplies last! Glazed or with our house-made cream cheese icing!

If you're heading to the HUGE Camelot neighborhood yard-sale, we're just around the corner... So, stop by for our famous donuts, signature Pour-Over Coffee or a quick and delicious Breakfast Sandwich.

The 'sweet holiday' originated in 1938 when The Salvation Army created it to honor their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. These brave volunteers, known as Donut Lassies, baked and delivered donuts to boost morale on the battlefield. In fact, they’re credited with popularizing the donut in the U.S. after the troops returned from Europe.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for everyone who has died serving in the American armed forces. This holiday, originally known as Decoration Day, started after the Civil War to honor the Union and Confederate dead.

On this long-weekend holiday, many volunteers across the country will place an American flag on each grave in cemeteries where fallen soldiers are laid to rest...

Retro Donuts will be featuring several donuts today, simply decorated in Red, White and Blue to help us all remember those who gave their lives for our many freedoms.

While many will enjoy this weekend with family and friends at the lake, camping or at home enjoying a barbecue with their loved ones, please take a moment to reflect on the original meaning of Memorial Day and the families that were forever changed by the loss of someone who gave their life serving the United States of America...
