Most of this owl pattern will use intarsia crochet. That's where you have a separate bobbin of yarn for each block of color.

Red potholder (Papilio rumanzovia) is all stitched up. I just love the bold colors of these butterflies.

The front is done! This is a Scarlet Mormon butterfly. The vibrant red color is only visible on the underside of the wings.
