EWU Get Lit! Programs

Each year we're proud to partner with local colleges and universities to provide students the opportunity to learn from highly sought after authors in small groups through our craft classes. If you're a student or faculty member at a local school who would like to set up a scholarship opportunity for next year's festival to help students attend poetry, fiction, and nonfiction classes for FREE, make sure to get in touch with us this fall!

We love to put writers in the spotlight with others who are at different stages in their careers. Whether it be a debut memoir, indie art book, mid-career writers, or Pulitzer Prize winners, we want to break down barriers and inspire audiences and future authors from all walks of life! Make sure to send us a submission by September 1st for a chance to be part of the next festival! 🔥

🔥One of the unique things about our festival is that we love to pair up authors who write about similar topics, themes, or perspectives. So if you're worried about submitting your event idea as a single author, please still give us a try! You may end up being offered the opportunity to share the stage with an author whose work you've long admired, or you could make a lifelong connection with a kindred spirit! 📖

Join us tomorrow at to celebrate MFA alum Janée Baugher! Janée is the author of the only craft book of its kind, The Ekphrastic Writer: Creating Art-Influenced Poetry, Fiction and Nonfiction (McFarland, 2020), as well as the full-length poetry collections, The Body’s Physics (Tebot Bach, 2013) and Coördinates of Yes (Ahadada Books, 2010). For her third poetry book, The Andrew Wyeth Chronicles, she won Tupelo Press’s Dorset Prize (2026).She’s a longtime assistant editor at Boulevard magazine and lives in Seattle, where the Office of Arts & Culture awarded her a 2024-2025 CityArtist grant to work on her memoir, “Suicide in the Mirror.” Professors Jonathan Johnson and Polly Buckingham will also be reading. Don't miss this Cheney event!

We're officially open for submissions for next year's festival! If you're inspired and energized to submit an event idea or you're hoping your organization could be part of our Book Fair, you can submit as early as TODAY! But don't worry, if you're still reeling from this year's amazing events, you do have the whole summer to apply. Make sure to read through our guidelines and submit by September 1st!

Whether you're interested in learning about writing residencies, writing picture books, or finding out what the literary scene is like in Alaska, we've got you covered! The events were pre-recorded, but there's a chance the authors could be joining LIVE in the chat, so make sure to tune in for each premiere. This is a wonderful way for us to showcase what we do in Spokane with a wider audience, and we can't wait for you to get to know these amazing authors!
