Since 1945, Spokane Buddhist Temple has been a refuge for those seeking deeper meaning.

In the Jodo Shinshu tradition, we walk the path of compassion, wisdom, and humility, supporting each other in personal growth and service to the world and all beings.

What does 300 boxes of cereal look like? It looks like a truck bed completely filled from end to end.

More importantly, it looks like hundreds of breakfasts for local families. It looks like children starting their day with something to eat. It looks like parents having one less thing to worry about. It looks like a community choosing to care for one another.

Acts of generosity like this remind us that real change doesn't happen because of one person or one organization. It happens when people come together and each contribute what they can for the benefit of others.

The Spokane Buddhist Temple is honored to support Habitat for Humanity through the Faith In Action Committee, but donations like this are what make that support possible.

Many of us spend our lives wondering if we are enough.

We worry about whether we belong, whether we measure up, whether others will accept us. We may hide parts of ourselves, fearing rejection, judgment, or misunderstanding.

The founder of our tradition, Shinran Shonin, understood something profound about the human condition. Each of us carries imperfections, doubts, fears, and limitations. None of us are free from them. Yet the Dharma doesn't ask us to become perfect before we are embraced.

In Shin Biddhism, we encounter a teaching of radical acceptance. Amida Buddha's compassion is not reserved for a select few. It is not earned through achievement, status, or conformity. It is directed toward all beings, exactly as they are.

Pride Month offers an opportunity to reflect on what it means to create a world where people don't need to hide who they are. A world where dignity, kindness, and respect are extended to all.

At the Spokane Buddhist Temple, we aspire to be a Sangha where every person is welcomed, valued, and embraced as part of our shared human family. We don't gather because we are the same, but because we are all recipients of boundless compassion.

May we continue to open our hearts to one another.

May we continue to see beyond labels and divisions.

And may we remember that the light of wisdom and compassion shines on all beings without exception.

As Shinran Shonin wrote in "๐˜๐˜บ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฏ๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜—๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜“๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ" :

โ›โ› The liberating wheel of light is without bound;
Each person it touches, it is taught,
Is freed from attachments to being and nonbeing,
So take refuge in Amida Buddha,
The enlightenment of nondiscrimination. โœโœ

Every Wednesday this month (*except June 24th) 12:00 - 1:00PM

Each Wednesday we gather for a deeply guided meditation designed to help settle the body, quiet the mind, and gently reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

Meditation gently quiets the mind, allowing us to see our thoughts and emotions with more clearly, soften our reactivity, and meet life with greater steadiness, compassion, and understanding.

*We will have a breif explanation at the beginning for anyone joining us for the first time.

**You are also welcome to join us for a 30 minute guided meditation Sunday mornings at 9:30AM.
__________

Breif description of the meditation:

We begin with a slow, grounding body scan, bringing awareness from the bottoms of the feet to the crown of the head. We notice sensations without judgment and allow the body to soften and release. From there, we move into a brief sensory awareness practice, tuning into sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, then resting in full-body presence.

Next, we settle into breath meditation, following the natural rhythm of each inhale and exhale. When thoughts arise, as they always do, we gently acknowledge them and return to the breath. We then enter a period of silent meditation with a simple mantra, allowing the sound to steady the mind and anchor awareness.

We close with loving-kindness meditation, offering compassion to ourselves, to those we love, to those we struggle with, and ultimately to all beings everywhere. The practice ends by widening our awareness outward, remembering that we share this life and this breath together with every being on the planet.

This meditation is open to both beginners and experienced meditators. No prior experience is needed.

Simply bring yourself, exactly as you are.
