Community. That is what we experienced in abundance and throughout Spokane County this week - earlier in the week on the South Hill for Spokane Summer Parkways enjoying the parks and outdoors together and taking in a Spokane Indians game with 4500+ fans cheering "our" team to victory. Yesterday we were downtown for the Inland Northwest Juneteenth Coalition Juneteenth Celebration and today in Elk for a pancake breakfast with Spokane County Fire District #4 before heading off to celebrate Reimagine Medical Lake Founder's Day. We had the opportunity to hear from people all over the county on what they expect from their courts and the judges they elect. We are so fortunate to live in and support this Spokane County community.

Brothers and baseball. Cheering on the Spokane Indians with 4500 fans to a 5-4 win on Wednesday was a nice break from the campaign trail and a way to close out the visit with Mike's brother. What an exciting game, and we had great seats - well until Otto decided to join us! 😁
Today you will find Mike in Riverfront Park with the Inland Northwest Juneteenth Coalition. Stop by noon - 4 and check it out.

Despite the winds, the community came out for Summer Parkways last night in the Manito/Comstock area. Not too many pictures as we were busy talking with people, getting them stickers and tattoos and enjoying the creativity of everyone with their bracelet making. Special thanks to Clarissa for her help last night while Jennifer remained on fire watch at the house.
Manito Park holds a special place in Mike's heart-he and Jennifer got engaged in the Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden inside the park many moons ago.

Wow! What a full weekend for Mike! Two weddings - wishing many years of love and happiness to Nourita & Shehzad and Alexandrea & Jorge; Pride parade - thank you to all the volunteers; Fairfield Flag Day - had to visit the place who's motto is "The Town that Celebrates Flag Day"; and the Spokane in Bloom garden tour. To top it all off, Mike's brother, Bob, came into town from Denver for a visit. More festivities and connecting with voters this week. Mike and Jennifer attended a fundraiser last night for the Spokane Veterans Forum (SVF). The Spokane Veterans Forum (SVF) is a non-profit organization that provides mentoring, educational, therapeutic, and life enhancing services to military veterans referred from regional Veterans Enhanced Therapeutic Courts. Their motto is "No Veteran Stands Alone." Chair of SVF, the Honorable Tim Fitzgerald, spoke about the successes of SVF. When a veteran enters the program, they are typically in it for 1-3 years, and the results speak for themselves - significant reduction in recidivism (from approximately 70% down to 6%). Graduates write and read a letter when they graduate the program. To date, 69 graduates specifically mentioned that if not for the intervention of therapeutic court and SVF they would have committed su***de. In discussing the results later with SVF Vice President, Sandra Yon, she made a powerful comment, "and those are only the ones we know about."

As a Spokane Municipal Court Commissioner, Mike has presided over Spokane Veteran's Court many times over the past 10 years. He doesn't often get to see the positive impact that his work and decisions make in people's lives, and hearing those stats and connecting last night in a fun way with SVF mentors and staff, court staff, veterans and others who support our local veteran community was moving. PS from Mike: "By the way, I judge better than I paint." 😉😁
