Here is a counterintuitive lesson from behavioral science that founders should know. Labeling.

Essentially, you describe someone as the kind of person you need at that. So they naturally step into it.

Say, “You are decisive,” and they lean into decisive actions. Call them “a resilient leader” and they will meet that identity.

Use this in team calls: “You are the first one to dive into tough tasks—that courage is rare.” Label wisely and you reinforce positive behavior. Without micromanaging.

Exercise: Pick one key trait you want to see (e.g., creative, bold, systematic). Use it once in conversation (“You are bold to tackle this problem head‑on.”). Watch how the behavior follows (Inspired by "Never Split the Difference" by Chris Voss).

Falling isn’t failure—staying down is.
