Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid is the perfect beach read with substance. I loved this novel and devoured it on my last beach trip. I like that it is historical fiction, but no war is involved except the one inside each of us.
It’s 1983, and the Riva siblings are getting ready for their (sometimes wild) end-of-summer party while spending as much time in the ocean as possible. To the outside, they look like well-adjusted adults with a very famous father. What is under the surface rivals the waves they ride. This relatable family saga brings the reader to realize that all people are flawed and some love is worth more than others. Told over the course of 24 hours, you will learn how Malibu tends to catch fire. This book feels like salt-soaked hair, sand between your toes, and storms rolling in from the depths.
