Ever notice how people ask for advice… and then immediately make excuses?

As professionals, we see it.
Every.
Single.
Day.

👉 If your horse is confused — that’s on you.
👉 If he’s frustrated — that’s on you.
👉 If he’s not improving — still on you.

Harsh? Maybe.
But that’s leadership.

Horses seek leadership. It’s what makes them feel safe.

Blaming the horse is easy.
Blaming his past is easy.
Blaming your past is easy.
Blaming anything but yourself is easy.

“Stubborn.”
“Lazy.”
“Spooky.”

Those words let you off the hook. They protect your ego while your partnership falls apart. They shut the door on curiosity and stop us from asking the only question that matters: why?

Owning your mistakes is harder.
It means admitting your timing was off.

That you pushed too far.

A clients rescue pony I trimmed had a crater of an abscess blow out on the sole and heel bulb. As deep as my thumb nail. Getting it open, packed with clay and in a cushioned boot made him go from 3 legged to walking pretty normally on all 4.
Sorry, I find hooves interesting.
