Did you know that the Winter Solstice isn't actually the latest sunrise of the year? That happened today.

This morning (Jan 5th) marked "The Turn." For the last two weeks, our mornings have been staying dark, but starting tomorrow, the sun rises a little bit earlier every single day until June.

To celebrate the return of the morning light, I captured a hyperlapse of this morning’s sunrise over Southwick.

Mother Nature made us work for these views! We managed to capture a stunning, crisp sunrise over the frozen Congamond Lakes on December 28th. The weather kept us grounded for a bit after that, but the skies cleared just in time yesterday evening (Dec 29th) for an absolutely fiery sunset over Southwick. 🔥❄️

From the golden morning glow to the deep crimson evening skies, New England winter landscapes look incredible from above.

We caught Santa's advance scout team jamming to some jazzy jingle bells as they cruised over Southwick for a flyby of their favorite spot... The Daily Grind! 🚁🎶

Once they landed, they spilled the beans (literally)! While Santa publicly says his favorite is the Christmas Cookie Shaken Espresso 🍪☕, a little elf told us the Grinch Smoothie 💚 is really his secret obsession behind closed doors. 🤫(shhhh)

Captured this morning's stunning sunrise from 375 ft up! 🚁🌅

Yesterday was the shortest day of the year, but today’s sunrise is actually just as significant.

Did you know that "solstice" translates to "sun stands still"? For the next few days, the sun appears to rise in the exact same spot on the horizon, pausing its journey south before finally reversing course. It’s this moment of stillness that ancient cultures celebrated as the "rebirth of the sun"—the turning point where light begins to win over darkness. ✨

💡 A surprising fact: Even though the days are technically getting longer starting today, our mornings will actually continue to get a tiny bit darker for another two weeks! Due to the earth's tilt and orbit, we gain all our new daylight in the afternoons first.
