“In a digital world where we can instantly see the results of a photo, film teaches us patience—we have to wait to see what we’ve created.”

We love compositions that can be interpreted in different ways. The trees on either side of the road echoing a pair of lungs or a Rorschach ink blot with the road leading through toward the partially obscured building. A little mystery goes a long way toward drawing viewers into your images.

Who says you can’t shoot film in low light? Using a higher speed film like Portra 800 and having it push processed can make for great results even in challenging scenes like concerts, sports, and other dim situations. Push processing increases contrast and the appearance of grain but those aspects can also be used as intentional creative choices!

We’re used to seeing a lot of portrait shoots at beautiful locations but we also love when we see your rolls come through with images from a studio session. These maternity photos are a great use of simple poses and the natural color palette of film that make for a clean, modern look.

Meet Xadani, one of our head scanning techs. When you send us your film, it gets processed and then Xadani works his magic on the Noritsu scanner to produce the film scans you know and love. As an avid film photographer himself, he’s brings that experience to every roll he scans to make sure the colors look natural and we produce the best scans that we can for you!

When he isn’t in the lab, he shoots videos on vintage camcorders, does landscape and race track photography, and hunts for albums to add to his vinyl collection

Thanks for bringing out the best in our film Xadani!

We love when a photo stops us and makes us want to step into the frame and explore. This haunting scene was shot by in Point Reyes with a Konica MT100 and Euphoric 100 film.

While driving along the North Shore coast on Oahu, Sophia saw these horses and had to stop for some photos. What a beautiful moment with the warm light and misty atmosphere!

Now this is something we don’t see every day!
Here in Santa Cruz we’ve had some major storm damage in the last few years and in late December 2024 the end of the Santa Cruz Wharf collapsed into the sea and one of the buildings got washed down the beach. Seeing an entire building on the sand like that made for some striking photos. Maybe this is what it felt like when Dorothy’s house landed in Oz?
