.energy Today, CFS laid the physics foundation for their ARC fusion power plant. ⚛️👇
With five deeply researched, peer-reviewed papers published in the Journal of Plasma Physics, they’ve nailed the scientific basics of producing copious amounts of fusion power.
No scientific breakthroughs are required to bring this clean, abundant source of energy to the grid. Their research builds on decades of tokamak research, proving they can handle fusion’s biggest challenges:
⚡ Powering the Grid: ARC will generate 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of fusion power, converting it into 400 megawatts (MW) of continuous electricity. That’s enough to power ~280,000 average American homes.
🛡️ Controlling the Plasma: they are successfully managing the heat exhaust of a superhot, unruly cloud of charged particles.
✅ Managing Disruptions: ARC is pragmatically designed to handle disruptions and keep the plasma stable for top performance.
We’re proving this approach right now with their SPARC tokamak in Massachusetts. As Principal Scientist Jon Hillesheim puts it: “People are looking at them and realizing we’re really pushing fusion forward.”
