The Welcome Project

For this week's , we're shining a light on The Conversations Project. This event took place throughout Somerville in the late 90's. Started by Tufts University with conversation groups hosted by organizations like The Welcome Project, the project was an initiative to create dialogue around our cultures, ethnicities, and overall identities. Participants explored how our differences connect us, true to Somerville's reputation as Immigrant City. Take a moment to read through some of the hype this project got!

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, The Welcome Project honors the strength, resilience, and cultural richness of immigrant communities. From language to tradition to advocacy, Hispanic and Latino immigrants contribute immeasurably to our shared future. We remain committed to our mission of building on immigrants’ existing strengths to forge connections across language and culture, helping immigrants find success and community in their new city. This month, and every month, we stand with our community in recognizing heritage as a source of pride, power, and possibility.

We began our fall ESOL semester on Wednesday with Orientation! It was great to see familiar and new faces, and we are so excited to begin a new semester with everyone!

Research has shown that the importance of having a physical space to meet is essential in growing a sense of community. That is why we want to celebrate the opening of the Mystic Activity Center for this week's Throwback Thursday series.
