On this Memorial Day, SMEU honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we cherish every day.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served and to the families who carry the legacy of their loved ones. Today, we pause to reflect, remember, and honor those who gave everything for our nation.

The SMEU would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of our fellow co-worker, Mark Hall, who suddenly lost his life over the weekend. Mark was a valued DPW employee and a great person who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. Based on current weather forecasts, the City is declaring a snow emergency to go into effect at 12 noon on Sunday, February 22. Beginning at 12 p.m., cars will have 4 hours (until 4 p.m.) to move to the ODD side of the street. Any exceptions will be noted by nearby signs.
City parking lots are also available for snow emergency parking. For a full list of available lots, visit somervillema.gov/snow. All cars must be removed from City lots within 2 hours of the end of the emergency. Snow emergencies can be lifted at any time. If you may be unable to move your car out of a City lot with potentially short notice, please find alternative parking.
Parking is not allowed in school lots during snow emergencies.Vehicles that are not removed from school lots before 4 p.m. on Sunday may be locked in, ticketed, and towed. For more information about Snow Emergencies and any snow-related closures, please visit somervillema.gov/snow or contact 311.
