Featuring your No. 1 Novice Youth Year-End Champion, ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐š ๐‹๐ž๐ž ๐‘๐ž๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฒ & ๐’๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐จ๐ง๐ž ๐‹๐ข๐ค๐ž ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐Ÿ™Œ

Hailing from Wilsonville, Oregon, Serena pushed through a 2024 diagnosis of hip dysplasia and tears to both labrums, returning in 2025 alongside Someone Like You, her 2013 sorrel overo mare by Zippos Sensation and out of HF Diva. The pair climbed to the top of the Top 20 Novice Youth list with 156.5 qualifying points.

Unsure how much time she would have left in the saddle, Serena made one more trip to the 2025 APHA World Show in Fort Worth, Texas, with her trainer, Laura Satern.

"The World Show is something that I'll never experience again. I drove down with [Laura], and we got super close. My family came down, too, and we went to dinner every night. It was such an incredible experience. It was the perfect way to end ... There is a photo of us where I was on the rail, and I had just won. We were hugging, and we're both crying. It was such a unique experience that I'll never have again."

The equestrienne from Beavercreek, Oregon, began riding โ€œAddieโ€ in 2019 after her own horse was sidelined. Bred and raised by trainer Tammy Mills, the 2015 sorrel overo mare, who is by Almost Too Fancy and out of Icelandic Meadow (TB), proved to be the right match as their connection grew. Eventually, Kristen purchased Addie.

In 2025, Kristen shifted her mindset to focus simply enjoying the ride. The decision paid off.

โ€œI loved my gelding, but he was a little spicy. I even bought a couple of other horses, but I kept coming back to Addie. Eventually, I stopped looking and just bought her. She's the least [mare-like] mare you'll ever meetโ€”quiet, uncomplicated and steady. That's what I love about her... In 2025, I wasn't chasing points at allโ€”I just wanted to enjoy showing my horse."
