Residential open burning is still restricted while recreational and cooking fires are now allowed, with some rules:

We've had a couple reports of backyard campfires around the lake over the past couple of weeks. Help us spread the word: Snohomish County is under a Stage 2 Burn Ban.

Not allowed:
🚫 Campfires and recreational fires (fire pits included)
🚫 Burning of yard debris, brush, or leaves

Still allowed:
✅ Propane fire tables and other gas-fueled cooking appliances
✅ Self-contained wood pellet grills and cooking devices, only if placed on a concrete or other non-combustible surface
✅ Gas-fueled cooking appliances
✅ Charcoal grills (be sure to dispose of ash in a metal container, douse it with water, and keep it 10 feet from vegetation for 72 hours

For the duration of this burn ban all outdoor burn permits are suspended. The ban will remain in effect until there has been a sustained period of rainfall or the fire risk is reduced.

This ban is about keeping our community and our firefighters safe. If you see an active fire, please call 911. Thanks for helping us look out for each other.

Earlier this week, our crews responded to a brush fire in the woods near a residence, burning an area roughly 20x30 feet. The cause is still undetermined, but firefighters worked quickly to knock it down before it could spread toward the home.

Conditions right now are extremely dry, and it doesn't take much to start a fire. A spark from a vehicle exhaust, a mower blade hitting a rock, or a piece of equipment can be all it takes. We're asking everyone in the community to stay vigilant and think twice before doing anything that could throw a spark near dry brush.

If you see smoke or fire starting, call it in early. A fire caught in its first few minutes is far easier to stop than one that's had time to spread. Thank you to our crew and to the Salish Fire Unit for their quick response and for keeping this one small.

Over the past couple of weeks a number of your Lake Roesiger firefighters have been out working on fires around Washington State.

From the Modrite and Railroad Fires to the Bradeen and Little Giant Fires, the teams have been working hard to not only extinguish and mop up fires but also to proactively protect people's homes and reassure residents.

We are proud of our teams and grateful we have the skills and resources to help others around the state while also looking after our community at home.

Huge THANK YOU to them and to our community for supporting them!

Faced with continued drought and rising wildfire risk, the Snohomish County Fire Marshal is prohibiting all outdoor burning countywide. The Level 2 burn ban goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.

“All outdoor burning is prohibited during this ban, including residential yard debris fires and recreational fires in fire pits until further notice,” the Fire Marshal said in a press release.

The press release also provides guidance on safer, allowed use of gas-fueled grills and other outdoor cooking appliances during this period: https://bit.ly/4g1Cejn

The upgraded burn ban is in conjunction with restrictions placed by the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service, including banning campfires. Similar restrictions were ordered earlier this week by Sky Valley Fire and the Darrington Fire Department.

This ban is expected to remain in effect until there has been a sustained period of rainfall or the fire risk is reduced, the Fire Marshal said.

All forecasts suggest the potential for wildfire will remain elevated into the fall. In addition to exercising caution, people are encouraged to take some key steps:

• Sign up for SnoCoAlerts, the county’s tool for sharing life-safety information right to your phone.

• Get to know Ready, Set, Go! the evacuation guidance first responders and emergency managers are now using in most Western Washington counties when wildfires and other hazards threaten.

• Bookmark the wildfire page on the Snohomish County Public Safety Hub – www.bit.ly/snocowildfire – to access real-time guidance and resources (including a link to sign up for SnoCoAlerts and details on Ready, Set, Go!)
