Your home’s electrical system works hard every day, but most people never give it a second thought until something goes wrong. Here’s what you should know to keep your home safe. 👇

1️⃣ Your electrical panel has a limit. Every panel is rated for a specific amount of power (measured in amps). Adding too many high-draw appliances or constantly overloading circuits can push it past what it was designed to handle. This leads to overheating and potential fire risk.

2️⃣ A breaker tripping once in a while is it doing its job. But if it keeps happening, it’s a sign of an overloaded circuit, a short, or a deeper wiring problem that needs to be looked at, not just reset and ignored.

3️⃣ Occasional flickering might be a loose bulb, but persistent flickering can point to loose connections, an overloaded circuit, or failing wiring.

4️⃣ GFCI outlets should be tested monthly. Those outlets with the “TEST” and “RESET” buttons (usually in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors) protect you from electric shock. They can wear out over time, so press TEST monthly to make sure they’re still doing their job.

5️⃣ Older homes may have outdated wiring. If your home is several decades old, it could still have aging or obsolete wiring that wasn’t built for today’s electrical demands. SUPER common in the downtown Everett area (specifically K**b and Tube)

☀️ Summer is almost here... but is your electrical system ready for AC season?

As temperatures rise, your air conditioner becomes one of the hardest-working appliances in your home. What many homeowners don't realize is that an aging electrical panel, overloaded circuits, or hidden wiring issues can struggle to keep up with the increased demand.

If you've noticed flickering lights when the AC kicks on, breakers tripping during hot days, or your system just doesn't seem to run as efficiently as it should, your electrical system may be trying to tell you something. Increased AC usage can expose underlying electrical problems that often go unnoticed during cooler months.

Before the first heat wave hits, take a few minutes to learn the warning signs and find out what you can do to keep your home safe, comfortable, and powered all summer long.

Your breaker keeps tripping, huh?

High draw appliances like portable AC units, space heaters, microwaves, air fryers, treadmills, EV chargers, and even some refrigerators pull a large amount of power. When multiple high-demand devices are sharing the same circuit, the breaker trips to protect the wiring from overheating.

What many homeowners don’t realize is that constantly resetting a tripped breaker without fixing the actual issue can create bigger problems over time. Repeated overloading causes heat buildup inside the wiring, outlets, and breaker connections. That heat can damage insulation, loosen connections, and increase the risk of electrical failure or even fire.

A dedicated circuit is often the correct solution.

A dedicated line means that appliance has its own circuit and breaker with no other outlets or devices sharing the load. Instead of competing for power with other rooms or appliances, it gets the electrical capacity it was designed to have.

Benefits of a dedicated circuit:
• Prevents nuisance breaker trips
• Reduces overheating and stress on wiring
• Helps protect expensive appliances
• Improves safety and reliability
• Keeps your electrical system operating the way it should

We see this all the time in older homes where electrical systems were never designed for today’s power demands. Just because something plugs into a standard outlet doesn’t mean the circuit can safely handle it long term.

That buzzing/arcing sound coming from a breaker is NOT normal.
When a breaker starts arcing, electricity is literally jumping through the air instead of flowing properly through the connection. That creates heat fast, damages the breaker, and can eventually lead to melted wires or even an electrical fire.
A lot of homeowners ignore these sounds because “everything still works”... until it doesn’t. If your panel is buzzing, crackling, or smells burnt, get it checked ASAP.
Electricity gives warning signs before bigger problems happen. This is one of them.

🔌 May is Electrical Safety Month! Do a quick cord check: don’t daisy‑chain extension cords, use the right type for the job, and replace any that are damaged. Small steps make a safer home.
