Mount Pleasant Rescue Ranch is a small rescue located in Smithville, Texas (40 minutes east of Austin). Mount Pleasant Rescue Ranch was inspired by our founder's grandmother MeMe; her dream was to have a place of rescue and sanctuary for those animals who needed it most. As we take our rescue journey forward, MeMe is always with us in spirit here at the ranch and with our animals.
Mount Pleasant Rescue Ranch is currently working on getting our non-profit 501(c)(3) license so that we can help more animals. Even without our nonprofit status, we have been able to rescue and rehome over fifty animals for the year of 2018, and have already surpassed that number for 2019 thanks to generous supporters and donors in our community. It really does take a village!
Our organization is dedicated to improving the lives of all animals, but especially horses, house cats, and feral cats by:
~Educating people about caring for horses, other livestock, house cats, and feral cats
~Facilitating animal rescues and adoptions
~Promoting feral cat/TNR advocacy and welfare (if you don’t know what TNR is, just ask!)
~Promoting spay/neuter for population control in cats and dogs.
At Mount Pleasant Rescue Ranch we advocate:
~Responsible horse management. Horses are intelligent, social companion animals that require mental stimulation, exercise and social interaction.
~Responsible cat ownership. Cats breed like rabbits and there is a massive overpopulation problem that leads to neglect, abuse and neglect of innocent cats.
~Trap-Neuter-Return as the only humane way to work with feral cat populations.
~Spaying and neutering to promote a long, healthy and happy life for all your animals.
~We love all animals and want others to share the joys of having all different types of animals in their lives, and the knowledge on how to avoid some common pitfalls that can happen when sharing your life with these wonderful creatures.
At Mount Pleasant, all of our animals come:
~Spayed/Neutered (female horses do not as this is not generally done, but all male horses are castrated).
~All horses have been handled, if old enough and healthy enough we work on training them under saddle.
~Seen and assessed by a licensed veterinarian.
All horses have negative coggins tests and any known issues will be explained before adoption.
~All house cats are fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered.
~All feral cats are fixed, ear tipped and have current rabies vaccinations.
~All other animals are vetted according to species specifications.
