Lt. Ray Dupuy Memorial Library
A project of Leadership Northshore class of 2018, Project Team #3 is building a lending library for the benefit of offenders housed at Slidell City Jail.
Ray Dupuy, Jr. was a lieutenant with the Slidell Police Department who passed away in 2017. He was a Leadership Northshore graduate (class of 2016), very passionate about serving our community and especially improving conditions at Slidell City Jail. When our project team conceived the idea for a library there, we learned that Lt. Dupuy wished to build a library at the jail years earlier. It was a

The library is open!
Many thanks to our community for all the donations and support.
While we have finished collecting donations of books, we encourage you to donate your used books to a little free library, a Friends of the Library group, Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners, Slidell Ladies for Liberty, or your favorite charity. This Library was a project of the Leadership Northshore and the Leadership Northshore Class of 2018!

We're almost done putting the books on the new shelves at the Slidell City Jail. Thanks to everyone who donated!
MAJOR UPDATE: In the last week we've inspected and catalogued 1,018 books for our Library project! In TOTAL we received around 1,600 book donations, which our project team whittled down to the current number of 1,018. Some books were duplicates, some were too flimsy or torn up, and some were not appropriate for a male audience. NOT TO WORRY, none of the donated books will go to waste. Several boxes of paperbacks have been donated to the Slidell Ladies for Liberty, a local charity that mails care packages every month to US troops overseas. Other small free libraries throughout Slidell will also be gifted with some books to expand and refresh their book offerings.
WE CURRENTLY DO NOT NEED ANY FURTHER BOOK DONATIONS FOR THIS PROJECT.
If you have books you're wanting to donate, hold on to them, as we will soon be announcing future plans which will require more book donations.
All that's left to accomplish is to install the shelves being built at Northshore HS and then fill them with the donated books.
We can't thank enough everyone who pitched in to help us make this project a reality, and especially the family of Lt Dupuy, who gave us their permission to name the project after Ray, and have offered their enthusiastic support throughout the process.
We will be hosting a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony sometime in May, so keep watching this page for all the details when they become available.

All of these books (135 of them) were donated by a single donor today. Wow! We're awed by the generosity of people wanting to help us complete this project!
VIDEO UPDATE #3: Drove out to Metairie to pick up another large donation of books from a very generous woman. We really appreciate everyone who has helped us make Lt. Dupuy's dream a reality!
VIDEO UPDATE #2: Here are some examples of the fiction titles we've received from book donors. Were missing some titles from some series, but all-in-all were really pleased with how the collection is shaping up. Folks have been so generous with their book donations, and we can't express our gratitude enough.

Wow!!! We had some truly ENORMOUS donations today, totaling over 250 books! The overwhelming generosity, and community spirit of our donors never fails to awe and inspire us. We owe a big thanks to: Betty Kintner & Judd Kitner from The Book Sack, Slidell, La.l; Jody Mediamolle with Beyond Business Solutions; and Patrice Gamblin (and all the lovely ladies) with the Slidell Newcomers Club who collectively donated 120 books for our project! We can't thank you enough for your support of our project and our community.
