🌡️ Hot Weather Alert for Pet Safety 🌡️
With heat indexes expected to approach 100 degrees this week, it's more important than ever to take extra precautions to keep pets safe and comfortable.
Never leave pets in vehicles, even with the windows cracked or the air conditioning running. Temperatures inside a car can rise quickly and become deadly in just minutes.
If you're taking your dog for a walk, remember that pavement and sidewalks can become dangerously hot. A good rule of thumb: if it's too hot for the back of your hand, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
We also encourage everyone to avoid setting live traps during extreme heat. Trapped animals can quickly suffer from heat exhaustion and other life-threatening conditions.
Be sure your pets have access to fresh water, shade, and cool places to rest throughout the day. A little extra caution can make a big difference during these hot summer temperatures.
And if you're looking for a cool companion to spend the summer with, Mookie is still searching for her forever home! ❤️🐾

Opossums live short, difficult lives, yet they spend their nights doing work many people never see.
Most only live about one to two years in the wild. They move through backyards, forests, roadsides, and neighborhoods after dark, searching for food while avoiding cars, dogs, predators, and harsh weather. Their lives are brief, but their role in nature is meaningful.
Opossums help clean the world around you. They eat pests, insects, carrion, and sometimes even venomous snakes. They also help reduce ticks, which can carry disease. In their quiet way, they support the balance of the places they pass through.
Still, many people fear them because of how they look or because they appear at night. But opossums are usually shy, gentle animals. When scared, they often freeze, hiss, drool, or play dead because they want to survive, not attack.
Kindness can be simple. Give them space. Do not harm them. Slow down when you see one near the road. Let them keep doing the work nature gave them.
Opossums may not live long, but they leave the world cleaner than they found it.

On this night... 24 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
May We Never Forget 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Far too many kittens die every year when a Good Samaritan takes kittens away from their mom. Humans simply cannot replicate a mother's care. Mom is their BEST chance of survival. If you find kittens, please follow this flow chart to determine next steps and ensure that they SURVIVE!

Shelters are the symptom- not the cause.
We’re overwhelmed and it’s not because of the animals, but because of the choices people make:
- Surrendering pets they committed to for life (new baby, got married, moving, don’t have time, etc. - notice that none of those are the animals fault).
- Not microchipping, making it impossible to reunite lost pets with families
- Not spaying/neutering, leading to more and more unwanted litters.
Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as an “accidental litter.” If your pet isn’t fixed, expect puppies or kittens. That’s how biology works.

Shelters like FAPS are doing everything we can—but we can’t solve what our community won’t take responsibility for.
Want to help? Fix your pets. Microchip them. And honor the commitment you made to them. They deserve that much.

"I travel alone and always lock my doors down this way at night so no one can open the doors.
It’s an old trucker trick I was taught and hope it helps someone else who didn’t know about it."
