It’s one of our favorite days of the year: International Wild Salmon Day!!
Salmon are not only one of the world’s most fascinating and mysterious creatures, traveling thousands of miles before swimming back home to spawn, but they are also some of the most nutritious sources of protein on the planet. Wild salmon boast heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), and exceptionally high levels of essential micronutrients like Vitamin D, Vitamin B-12, and selenium.
We can’t take our wild salmon for granted - they have disappeared in regions that have experienced habitat loss, hydropower, hatchery mis-management, and overharvest. That’s why we must be extra vigilant and speak out for wild salmon every chance we get, including current policies and decisions around the future management of the Tongass National Forest.
We are celebrating International Wild Salmon Day in the kitchen with some of our favorite wild salmon recipes, including Cilantro Lime Baked Salmon. You can use any species of salmon - they all pair beautifully with the bright lime and cilantro flavors.

At Alaskans Own, we honor every fish that is harvested from the sea. That includes honoring the WHOLE fish, not just the beautiful fillets that we are all accustomed to cooking and eating.
There are so many other parts of the fish that are often discarded, including the bellies, cheeks, collars, and trim. That is why we’re proud to work with our local processors to offer a variety of seafood products that help minimize fish waste and maximize fish value.
Keep an eye out for our halibut and salmon mince meat, halibut cheeks, and black cod tips this season and join us in honoring the whole fish!
